  • Built by war prisonersThis road was built between 1933 and 1935 by Paraguayan prisoners who were transferred from the place of conflict (Chaco Boreal region) during the Chaco War that confronted Bolivia with Paraguay.
  • Known around the worldDue to its deadly allure, the Death Road has been featured in everything from Top Gear and the History Chanel to Hamish & Andy and Tin Tin.
  • Left hand side for driving For downhill riders, this means sticking to the precarious cliff side. Drop-offs can be as high as 600 meters (1,970 feet), so think twice before riding extremely fast.
Itinerary

Day 1La Paz - Death Road - Senda Verde - La Paz

Meeting starts early in the morning at Higher Ground Cafe (Tarija St. between Linares St. and Murillo St.) from where our bus will depart on the way to La Cumbre. Here, you will try on the bikes and equipment while our guides explain about important tips for the beginning of the road. The first part is pavement, so it is very easy to ride but later you will start with the famous Death Road, so it means you will be going from 4760 m.a.s.l. (La Cumbre) to 1100 m.a.s.l. (Yolosa, the end point). During the ride down, you will have some short breaks, where the guides will inform you about the road conditions ahead so you may be aware of every detail on the road and, of course, take some wonderful pictures and grab some snacks. At the end of the Death Road, you will enjoy an ice cold beer and move on to La Senda Verde, where fresh showers, amazon wildlife and lunch wait for us. Later on, we will jump into the bus and return to La Paz city. We may arrive to La Paz some time between 08:00 PM and 09:30 PM, depending on the traffic conditions.
